its declining because you fanny bandits keep doing the same shit over and over.
and are still using the same old sprites.
its really not that hard to make (MAKE, not EDIT) your own sprites and make your OWN characters with their own personalities.
is imagination really in so short supply?
the popularity is dying because sprite animators are getting lazier.
Proxide and alvin earthworm, at last brought some uniqie dynamic movement and custom sprites to the table, where as the lastest batch of sprite movies are lame, and extremely lazy.
sprite animators today rely to heavily on the sprites they are using, and obviously no one will be impressed because we know the sprites werent made by the submitter.
when someone decides to make a sprite movie, they need to have a funny or exciting premise, (as with any storytelling medium) and break the confines of the preset sprite animations into unique and intriguing ways.
if people aren't staying.."wait how he do that" or " I didnt know there was a frame like that in that sprite animation" then you shouldn't even bother.
Once you watch SMBZ you don't watch anything else.

Ooh yea Rubberninja I agree with those lame ripoffs of Pheonix Wrong.
They are sometimes funny, but people make it too easy to make a good rating...
since that is 100% stolen. The only idea they hade was to add famous scenes from movies and TV to some Pheonix Charaters. You can hate that for sure I can get that.
Mario DBZ... yea that theme got overused since Alvin started it in a good way.
Now if I could super animate I could make a sprite movie that maybe could insure new inspiration. Let's just hope my newest idea with Volkain5 would work.

I think the reason why sprite movies are getting unpopular is because only 10% of them are actually enjoyable. I really dont mind sprites at all, in fact they were pretty damn fun when I was using them because the only thing I care about is the actual animation and how the sprites are actually used. Newgrounds is a site for animations and music.
but like what rubberninja said, its best to actually make the sprites from scratch ad animate them. that way, the completed movie would feel more fulfilled for you and the people who watch them.
If you need help with this goal pm me id love to help. i like flash movies. i dont care what people say. just remember, you cant win em all: some people were born to hate certain things.
Imagine if you put in the effort to make your own sprites. One sprite sheet made BY YOU, would be YOUR art and noone could say otherwise. The satisfaction would be guilt free spriting and you would be animating the way you want to still and it would be 100% yours.
That would pay off ten fold wouldn't it? Just analyse other sprite sheets see what is needed and make your own. To use more than just Mario sprites, to show there is more to spriting than that, that would truly inspire spriters if that is your goal.
Spriters need to realise it's actually simple, and making your own sprites is actually fun.
people, people please, think about it, what made newgrounds ,sprite movies they are the life force, the easiest things to make and for users ike me with no talent indrawing, its perfect. so sprites no matter how bad they get are the life force of newgrounds. s disc all sprite movies and youll be looking at the busness end of my foot up ur @$$. fool i can actually knock ur heads off so leave it as "sprite moivies own. now im not sayin that drawn ones are bad actually im a huge fan of sprite tv so dont mess with either of em foos'.

I have to say that it may be unoriginal to use already made up characters, but the storyline and comedy used to portray these commonly known characters is what makes them good. just wanted to get that out there
hey, I LIKE sprite movies, in some cases almost more than normal ones, depends on the content and stuff, I feel that sprite movies and sprite comics are worthy of respect, of course, I'm probably a bit biased because sprites are WAY easier to work with, but whatever
Yep, they have been declining in popularity all since I started actively be on Newgrounds, also there is sort of "war" going on SheezyArt.com with the same topic as well.
I like certain sprite movies, not all of them, but some really stand out, but the thing is that they are really easy to use, with no real artistic skill needed. Of course that's kinda stereotypical, some people really work on their sprites and some even make custom sprites for their needs.
But don't get offended, I'm neutral in this matter. Using sprites and drawing the things yourself have both their flaws, sprites being called "cheap" and drawing is hard for the first timers, as that's the thing that makes people give up animating most of the time, if not lack of knowledge on how to use Flash.
Also that quote of Tom Fulp is absolutely true, but people just still do it. Newgrounds should be a better community with understanding, not a place where you just go and give plain insults.
Newgrounds' future isn't looking that good when you think about it, but of course, if you are flamer, you see nothing wrong with it.
Also gotta agree what MindChamber said, although I, as a tweener, I'm rather too lazy at times.

The only thing that I can say is that it is all the same jokes I have seen and heard but that is about it on the negative side, otherwise its hillarious.
LOL have u noticed there are lot of sprites that mario on drugs and sonic runnin and bumbing to sumthing i hate them >:( ppl keep copying others if verybody keeps doing that sprites will die for peoples sinz LOL
I have to agree with the people that say sprites are not art. They aren't. However the do take time and patience to do correctly and well. To be honest, if I'm watching something stupid and funny, I'd rather see sprites, but if it's a cartoon that is trying to get a serious point across, I'd like to see something hand drawn, it's just easier to capture emotion.
Good job on Sprite TV 3 though, really enjoyed the series, sucks that it's over.
To those who make sprite flashes and they sux or are turning people away from them stop making them if you know is gonna sux then spot all you are doing is hurting ur shelf and those that are a fan of sprite animation to those who make GOOD sprite animation please continue im am a VERY BIG fan of sprite animation its what got me to new grounds in the first place the very first sprite animation i saw on here was links quest for ass it was funny as hell so please dont quit making sprite flashes if u are good but if not then please quit befor u kill off sprite animation thank you
People should just accept sprites as much as they like drawn pictures! i even saw a flash that was all about criticizing another flash for using sprites! I even prefer sprite flashes over normal flashes because they remind me of that game better. If anybody doesnt like sprites, they can watch their own favorite movies, not criticize other people´s. After all, Newgrounds is "everything, by everyone", and that includes sprite flashes.
